Camper in Leadership Training (10th - 12th graders)
Our Camper in Leadership Training (CILT) program is for campers entering 10th - 12th grades. This program is a volunteer program that provides qualified young people with a leadership experience designed to prepare them to be future camp counselors and leaders. Under the supervision of the Leadership Director and the Senior Staff, CILTs will be placed with up to four different camper groups during the summer. The goal is to give each CILT a variety of experiences, allowing them to learn about children at different developmental levels, and about the varying needs of campers. During each assignment the CILT further develops his or her leadership ability and is able to assume more and more responsibility in the group.
CILTs will be required to attend 2 training days prior to the start of camp. During those training's, CILTs will be taught about the camp philosophy and how we want them to work with campers. While many of our CILTs are former campers, each year we have several CILTs join the program that are new to Camp Kinneret. During the training time, CILTs will learn camp songs, games and most importantly, traditions!
During the summer, we require our CILTs be in the program for at least 2 full rotations, but strongly encourage 3 full rotations. It takes consistent time at camp, with their counselor to develop a relationship and comfort that allows them to grow and develop their skills. A full rotation consititues 5 days a week, for 2 or 3 week intervals, depending on the rotation. The summer starts with a 3 week rotation, followed by three 2 week rotations. We see that CILTs who are involved for the entire summer, or all 4 rotations, develop their skills the most.
To participate in the CILT program, interested individuals must complete an application, be interviewed by one of the camp directors and be selected to participate. Those chosen pay a $50 registration fee and go through approximately 15 hours of training prior to the start of the summer; CILTs who successfully complete the program receive an honorarium at the end of the summer.
